Shading Yellow Pleats using Copic Markers

Shading Yellow Pleats using Copic Markers

Shading Yellow Pleats using Copic Markers

Today we’re Shading Yellow Pleats using Copic Markers. Coloring pleats is difficult to do with the whole light source stuff and where to shade so I thought it would be an awesome tutorial to do with this image from Make it Crafty. Yellow is probably one of my weak points. It’s really hard to get a good yellow dark to light color contrast. The yellows really jump around with their depth on the Copic Marker Color Chart.

I’ve used my Copic Xpress Blending card to print my Make it Crafty image out on.

Here’s the copic list I’ve used for this entire image :

  • Skin – E000, E00, E11, E13, E17
  • Hair and Shoes – N9, N7, N5, N3
  • White areas on dress – N0, N1, N3, N5
  • Blue on dress – B23, B24, B26, B29, B9
  • Red on dress – R39, R37, R35, N9
  • Yellow – Y11, Y13, Y17, Y35, E99, E97
  • Ground – E33, E31, E30, N3
  • Blue dots in background – B00, BG10

Take a look at the pleats and try to see what part of the dress is coming out to appear closer. The part that I shaded here in the photo below is the part that is going to be the shaded area. Follow along in the photos below as we build those layers Shading Yellow Pleats using Copic Markers.

Then repeat those steps on the rest of the pleats. I just love this image, you can really make those pleats and folds in the dress really pop out!
