Will Work For Craft Supplies!
So, you will work for craft supplies? We’ve got a lot in common, my friend! I’m going to share my secret with you on how I got about 80% of my craft supplies free!
While browsing online for techniques and ideas on crafts and cardmaking I discovered this lovely little blogging world. I immediately fell in love with the entire blogging concept and the fact that I could share my love for crafts on my blog was the cherry on top! I found so many inspirational bloggers, a lot I still follow to this day and that was roughly 9 years ago when I first picked up my very first stamp and my beloved Copic Markers. While hopping through blogland I discovered challenge blogs and how to get craft supplies free!
Participating in challenge blogs can get your name out there!! You will drive traffic to your blog and also have the chance of winning some craft supplies or even be featured on that challenge blog. Being featured is such a great accomplishment, usually the crafty prize is selected random but the featured projects are chosen to be the challenge blog’s favorite project!
I remember every week I would get a list of the challenges posted from all my favorite blogs and then figure out all of the challenges I can incorporate together and plan out my weekly posts and get to crafting. Now 8 and 9 years ago I would have to go through my favorite challenge blogs that I book marked and see what the challenges are. Now there’s this amazing little blog called Paper Playful and this amazing group of crafters post the daily challenges and what the challenges are! I won lots of challenges I probably posted 3-5 cards a week and entered those cards in about 30-50 different challenges. I made more and more cards and projects and my projects and techniques also got better and better! Pretty soon I was finding myself on those Challenge Blog Design teams where I had my card posted for inspiration for the weeks challenge.
You are probably thinking what will all of this get me? You must think larger than crafty little supply package you just won from that last challenge, although that was pretty sweeeet! You want to get noticed by your favorite product MANUFACTURES!!!!!!!!
Getting on design teams was always such a great accomplishment each and every time I made it onto a team. I’ve had my chance to be on some great design teams! You can view them on my Creative Resume. What I have found when trying to get noticed by a manufacturer you must use their products. Companies want to see what you can do with their products. Use them and then post your projects all over social media. Use hashtags and tag the company. Post it on their Facebook wall, tweet the photo.. do it all!!!
Make a list of all the crafty manufactures and see if they have a blog, subscribe, comment and participate in any of their challenges. When you post on your blog, link to the company’s page and if you really want to go that extra mile link to the product. When you are on their Design Team that’s what you’ll be doing so why not show them you mean business! Remember, Will Work for Craft Supplies!
Once you are ready to start applying for design teams you can check the Design Team Call site I have found very useful! I wouldn’t rely on it too much it’s always best to check your favorite manufactures Social Media and blogs for their Design Team Call announcement. Practice techniques and find your own ‘look’, stand out, be original!!
