How to Color and Shade Red Copic Markers

How to Color and Shade Red Copic Markers

How to Color and Shade Red Copic Markers

Today I’m sharing with you How to Color and Shade Red Copic Markers. I have gotten so many emails about red being a difficult color to blend and shade. It’s actually one of my favorite colors to use. You can really get an awesome dark to light contrast with reds. I’m going to show you how to in this tutorial!

Awesome possum, right?!

I am using this awesome Digi Stamp from Make it Crafty, Tinkles. She’s so much fun to color, look at that hair! There are so many ways you can color her, but I wanted to use some different colors and really make her pop with colors. I have also used my Cryogen Paper, my favorite paper to use with Copic Markers!  Here’s my list of colors I have used for this entire image.

  • Copic Markers:

  • Skin – E0000, E000, E00, E11, E13, R22, R20, R01
  • Hair – N9, E37, E44, E43, E43, E41
  • White Clothes – C0, C2, C3, C6
  • Red Clothes – R39, R37, R35, R32, N7
  • Stripes – YR14, Y17, Y13, E37, BG09, BG07, BG5, BG02
  • Snowy Hills – C4, C3, C2, C0, B00, B
  • Sky – B00, B000,

NOTE: After you go through your red colors you want to add some N7, this is what is going to really deepen that red and give it a rich deep tone, yet keeping that light R32 color in the center. Once you add the N7 to the shadowed areas, you can see them below, you will want to add the red to that dark grey. We don’t want it to be grey, we want it to be a darker red, so now we have to add red to that grey. So start again with R39 and work your way down.

I just love to Color and Shade Red Copic Markers. This is such a gorgeous color combo and perfect for Christmas!! When I look at this little cutie I pictured her jumping in the snow. So, I created a snowy hill with a bright blue sky and little snowflakes falling all around. I used my Marvy White Gel Pen and made little dots all over my colored image. I absolutely LOVE this white gel pen. I’ve had it for months and it’s still nice and juicy and works every time I use it!
